Berkeley, CA, Nov. 1, 2020 – GeneTether Inc., a Bay Area biotech company focused on developing technologies to increase the correction efficiency of targeted genome editing technologies, today announced that its Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Geoffrey Sargent, Ph.D., was named a 2020 Inspirational Instructor by UC Berkeley Extension.

“Teaching is an incredibly important part of my life and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so at UC Berkeley Extension.  To be recognized as an inspiration to my students truly means the world to me,” said Dr. Sargent, who teaches Biochemistry, Stem Cell Biology, and Research and Discovery courses at UC Berkeley Extension.

William Garner, M.D., Co-Founder of GeneTether, stated, “Having seen Geoff’s patient, creative teaching skills on display at GeneTether, we were not at all surprised at his recognition as a 2020 Inspirational Instructor. Geoff has been working in this field since the late 80’s and can be considered a pioneer.   We are very proud of Geoff and congratulate him on this well-deserved award.”

Each year, UC Berkeley Extension’s academic departments nominate their most outstanding instructors for consideration by Extension’s Academic Policy Committee to receive the Inspired Teaching Award in various categories, including Teaching Achievement, New Instructor, and Curriculum Development. Selected instructors are honored at an annual reception and receive a certificate of recognition.

About GeneTether
GeneTether has developed a proprietary method to conjugate, or “tether,” donor DNA templates to targeted genome editing technologies, including CRISPR-Cas, TALENs, and ZFNs. We refer to this as our DNA Template-Nuclease Tethering, or TNT™, Platform. In ex vivo experimentation combining our TNT™ Platform technology with CRISPR-Cas9, the TNT™ Platform has been shown to increase editing efficiency to >50%.
